Let \(X\) be an algebraic variety defined over a field of characteristic zero. Let \(x\in X\) be a point with maximal multiplicity. A criterion is given in terms of invariants of arcs derived from the Nash multiplicity sequence to determine whether \(x\) is isolated in the closed subset of points with maximal multiplicity.
