On a closed Riemann surface, \textit{J.-B. Castéras} introduced a mean field type flow depending on a real parameter $\varrho$ [Pac. J. Math. 276, No. 2, 321--345 (2015; Zbl 1331.53097)]. He proved, among other results, convergence results for $\varrho 8\pi$ and for $\varrho 8\pi $ and not multiple of $8 \pi$. In the present paper the authors obtain for the critical case $\varrho = 8\pi$ a convergence's result for the flow under some geometric condition and with appropriate initial data. Their result includes the Ding-Jost-Li-Wang's result published in [\textit{W. Ding} et al., Asian J. Math. 1, No. 2, 230--248 (1997; Zbl 0955.58010)] with a new proof.
