The paper deals with the minimizer problem related to the thermal insulation \[ \min F_1(A,U)=\min\left\{\int_A|\nabla u|^2\,d\mathcal L^n+\int_{\partial A}u^2+\overline{C}\mathcal L^n(A)\right\}, \] over all pairs $(A,u)$, where $A$ is a smooth domain containing a bounded domain $\Omega$, and $u\in H^1(A)$ with $u=1$ on $\partial \Omega$. The author proves that for minimizers $(A,u)$, the free boundary $\partial A$ is locally given by a pair of smooth graphs of $C^{1,\alpha}$ functions, each parametrizing the boundary of one of the components, in any point where $\partial A$ is trapped between two hyperplanes which are very close together.
