The purpose of this book is to cover a divers range of topics in Mathematical Physics, linear and nonlinear PDEs. Starting from the classical theory, the authors introduce the reader to the latest developments based on the notions of weak solutions and Sobolev spaces. This book represents an important tool in the study of PDEs for the students as well for the teachers by adopting ``a perspective on PDEs that is neither too theoretical nor too practical'' representing ``the perfect companion to a broad spectrum of courses''. The book is structured in five chapters, each divided in three sections and bibliographical remarks. Each section contains theoretical background, worked-out problems and exercises for self study. Chapter 1, Preliminaries, presents some notions from mathematical analysis like the classical multidimensional statements of integration by parts formula, including the Stokes formula. The convolution and its properties are also presented. Chapter 2 is dedicated to the fundamental objects of the modern theory of PDEs like distributions, the Fourier transform and Sobolev spaces, in order to look for weak solutions of various problems. Chapter 3, Common methods, presents methods of finding approximated solutions. The authors present the theory of weak convergence, the separation of variables method and also the Galerkin method of finding weak solutions to linear PDEs, method based on constructing a sequence of approximating solutions. Chapter 4 is dedicated to the solvability of elliptic problems. In the first section, the classical theory of harmonic functions is presented. The authors introduce the classical approach to the Laplace and Poisson equations based on Green's function. The second section is devoted to the theory of existence and uniqueness of weak solutions to linear elliptic boundary value problems. Chapter 5 is devoted to evolutionary equations, dealing with hyperbolic and parabolic equations. The book ends with a bibliography chapter.
