The aim of the paper are questions related to the minimization of eigenvalues of a special self-adjoint operator. Let \[ -\Delta + \beta x^2 + \beta^{-1}y^2 \] for any \(\beta > 0 \) denote the self-adjoint operator on \(L^2(\mathbb{R}^2)\) and let \(\{ \lambda_k(\beta)\} \) denote the set of positive eigenvalues numbered in increasing order and each repeated according to its multiplicity. Then the main problem of the paper is the following: For which values of \(\beta\) is \(\min \{\lambda_k(\beta): \beta > 0\}\) realized? A lot of similar questions are given by \textit{A. Henrot} (ed.) [Shape optimization and spectral theory. Berlin: De Gruyter (2017; Zbl 1369.49004)]. In this context the paper deals with the Riesz means of the eigenvalues and the trace of the corresponding heat kernels.
