The determinant and volume of 2-bridge links and alternating 3-braids (Q1743762)

The author proves special cases of the conjecture of \textit{A. Champanerkar} et al. [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 94, No. 3, 883--908 (2016; Zbl 1358.57013)] concerning alternating hyperbolic links \(K\) that \[ \mathrm{vol}(K) <2 \pi \log\det (K) \] where \(\mathrm{vol} (K)\) is the hyperbolic volume and \(\det(K)\) is the determinant of \(K\). The special cases for which the inequality holds include 2-bridge links, alternating 3-braids, an infinite family of 4-braids, and certain highly twisted links.
