Under consideration are hypoelliptic pseudodifferential operators of the form \[ Au= \frac{1}{(2\pi)^{d}}\int_{{\mathbb R}^{d}}\int_{{\mathbb R}^{d}}e^{ix\xi}a((x+y)/2,\xi)u(\xi)\,dyd\xi \] acting in the spaces \(L_{2}({\mathbb R}^{d})\). The class of operators \(A\) can include operators of an infinite order with a certain growth of the symbol \(a\). The authors prove Weyl-type asymptotic formulas for the counting function and the spectrum of the selfadjoint positive operator \(A.\) One of the main results is stated as follows. Theorem. Assume that for every \(\varepsilon>0\) there exist positive constant \(c_{\varepsilon}, C_{\varepsilon}, B_{\varepsilon}\) such that \(c_{\varepsilon}f((1-\varepsilon)r\Phi(v))\leq a(rv)\leq C_{\varepsilon}f((1+\varepsilon)r\Phi(v))\) for all \(r\geq B_{\varepsilon}\) and \(v\in S^{2d-1}\) the unit sphere in \({\mathbb R}^{2d}\), where \(f\) is a strictly increasing positive function satisfying some growth conditions such that \(\lim_{y\to \infty}yf'(y)/f(y)=\infty\) and \(\Phi\) is a positive continuous function on the sphere \(S^{2d-1}\). Then \[ \lim_{\lambda\to \infty}\frac{N(\lambda)}{\sigma(\lambda)}=\frac{\pi}{(2\pi)^{d+1}d}\int_{S^{2d-1}}\frac{dS}{(\Phi(v))^{2d}}, \;\sigma(\lambda)=(f^{-1}(\lambda))^{2d} \;(\text{ for large }\;\lambda ). \] An asymptotic representation for the eigenvalues \(\lambda_{j}\) is also exposed.
