The authors consider a finite group \(G=AB\) where the subgroups \(A, B\) of \(G\) are mutually permutable, i.e. \(UB=BU\) for all subgroups \(U\) of \(A\) and also \(AV=VA\) for all subgroups \(V\) of \(B\). They fix a prime \(p\) dividing the order of \(G\) and suppose that for every element of prime power order in the union \(A\cup B\) the size of the conjugacy class of \(x\) in \(G\) is not a multiple of \(p^{p -1}\). The main result of this note asserts that in these conditions \(G\) is \(p\)-soluble of \(p\)-length at most one.
