Recall that \(Z\) is equiconnected provided there is a continuous \(\lambda:Z\times Z\times[0,1]\to Z\) such that \(\lambda(x,x,t)=x\) and \(\lambda(x,y,0)=\lambda(y,x,1)=x\) for each \(x,y\in Z\) and \(t\in[0,1]\). Suppose that \(X\) is paracompact and connected and \(Y\) is the box product of a family of equiconnected metrisable spaces. Then any Baire-one map \(g:X\to Y\) extends to a separately continuous function \(f:X\times X\to Y\), i.e., \(f(x,x)=g(x)\) for each \(x\in X\). The converse holds if the paracompactness hypothesis for \(X\) is strengthened to strongly countably dimensional and metrisable.
