A sequence \(\{x_n\}\) of non-zero elements in a complex separable Banach space \(\mathcal{X}\) is called a representing system if, for any \(x\in\mathcal{X}\), there exists a sequence of complex numbers \(\{a_n\}\) such that \(x=\sum_{n}a_nx_n\), where the series converges in norm. The sequence \(\{x_n\}\) is called an absolutely representing system if, for each \(x\), the series representing \(x\) converges absolutely, that is, \(\sum_{n}|a_n|\,\|x_n\|<\infty\). Note that the sequence of coefficients \(\{a_n\}\) may not be unique. In this paper, the authors study representing systems on reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces of holomorphic functions on the unit disk. They are interested in representing systems which consist of kernel or normalized kernel functions. It is proved that, for certain weighted Hardy spaces (including the classical Hardy, Bergman and Dirichlet spaces), Dirichlet-type spaces, and de Branges-Rovnyak spaces, any sequence \(\{\hat{k}_{\lambda_n}\}\) of normalized reproducing kernel functions, where \(\{\lambda_n\}\) is a sequence of distinct points in the unit disk, cannot be an absolutely representing system for its closed linear span. In addition, the authors show that, if \(\{\lambda_n\}\) is a non-Blaschke sequence such that \(\sum_{n}|\lambda_n - \lambda_{n+1}|<\infty\), then the sequence \(\{k_{\lambda_n}\}\) of kernel functions cannot be a representing system for the Hardy space \(H^2\). An open question is raised: is there a non-Blaschke sequence \(\{\lambda_n\}\) such that \(\{k_{\lambda_n}\}\) is a representing system for \(H^2\)?
