The paper under review is devoted to the complex time dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation, which has the following form, \[ \text{(GL)}\qquad u_t=(1+i\beta)\Delta u+(1+i\delta)|u|^{p-1}u+\nu u \] with the initial condition \(u(\cdot,0)=u_0\), where \(\alpha,\beta,\nu\) are real parameters, and \(u_0\in L^\infty(\mathbb R^N;\mathbb C)\). The authors are interested in the critical case where \(\beta=0\) and \(p=\delta^2\). Their main result is the existence of a complex-valued solution \(u(x,t)\) of (GL), with initial condition \(u_0(x)\), which blows up in finite time \(T=T(u_0)\). Furthermore, as the time variable approaches \(T\), the solution \(u(x,t)\) approaches a function \(u_*(x)\in C^2(\mathbb R^N\setminus\{0\};\mathbb C)\). The profile of the function \(u_*(x)\) is precisely described in a neighborhood of \(0\) via a non-trivial expression which displays the singularity of \(u_*\) at \(x=0\). The authors also state a stability result, which exhibits that their solution \(u(x,t)\) is stable under small perturbations of the initial data.
