For a given bounded domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N\) with a \(C^2\)-boundary \(\partial \Omega\), the authors consider the Dirichlet problem \[ \begin{aligned} -\Delta_p u - \mu \Delta_q u & = \lambda |u|^{s-2}u+f(x,u)\text{ in }\Omega, \\ u & = 0 \text{ on } \partial \Omega, \end{aligned} \] where \(\Delta_r\) with \(r>1\) denotes the \(r\)-Laplacian, \(1<s<q\leq p<+\infty\), \(\lambda\) is a real parameter and \(f: \Omega\times \mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\) is a Carathéodory function satisfying certain conditions at infinity and near zero. In the main result the authors prove the existence of at least four smooth solutions when the parameter is sufficiently small where two of them are positive, one is negative and the remaining has changing sign. Under an oddness condition on \(f\) near the origin it is shown the existence of a whole sequence of sign-changing solutions, which converges to zero.
