Given a topological space \(X\), let \(\mathcal{L} (X)\) be the set of compact subsets of \(X\) and \(\mathcal{M} (X)\) the hyperspace of nonempty compact subsets of \(X\). An \(M\)-ordered compact cover for \(X\) is a family \(\mathcal{F}=\{F_{K}:K\in \mathcal{L} (M)\}\) such that \(\bigcup \mathcal{F} =X\) and \(K\subset L\) implies that \(F_{K}\subset {F_{L}}\). If such a cover exists, \(X\) is a space dominated by the space \(M\). Moreover, if for any compact subset \(K\) of \(X\), there exists \(F\in \mathcal{F}\) such that \(K\subset F\), the space \(X\) is strongly dominated by the space \(M\). Given a cardinal number \(\kappa\), a space \(X\) is \(\kappa\)-compact if it is the union of \(\kappa\)-many compact subspaces; \(X\) is \(\kappa\)-hyperbounded if the closure of each \(\kappa\)-compact subset of \(X\) is compact and it is \(\kappa\)-hemicompact if there exists a family \(\mathcal {F}\subset \mathcal{K} (X)\) such that the cardinality of \(\mathcal{F}\) is less than or equal to \(\kappa\) and for any \(A\in \mathcal{K}(X)\) there exists \(B\in \mathcal{F}\) such that \(A\subset B\). The class of spaces dominated by a given space \(M\) was introduced by \textit{B. Cascales} and \textit{J. Orihuela} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 156, No. 1. 86--100 (1991; Zbl 0760.54013)]. In the paper under review the author studies whether some properties related to compactness (countable compactness, local compactness, \(\sigma\)-compactness. etc.) are inherited by domination or strong domination. He also proves results showing that domination and strong domination, by some space \(Y\) is inherited to some structures as: closed subsets, finite products and the hyperspace \(\mathcal{K} (X)\). He also studies spaces dominated and strongly dominated by \(\kappa\)-hyperbounded and \(\kappa\)-hemicompact spaces. The paper ends with a series of interesting open problems.
