The classical Atiyah-Bott construction of prequantization bundles for the moduli space of flat connections of a closed oriented surface is a precursor for 3-dimensional Chern-Simons theory. The paper under review generalises both these constructions to arbitrary principal bundles. An application is given to the space of Riemannian metrics, acted upon by orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms.
