A subset \(\Lambda\subseteq \mathbb{Z}\) is called a Rajchman set if whenever \(\hat{\mu}(n)\rightarrow 0\) as \(|n|\rightarrow\infty\) with \(n\not\in\Lambda,\) then \(\hat{\mu}(n)\rightarrow 0\) as \(|n|\rightarrow\infty.\) It is called a Riesz set if whenever supp \(\hat{\mu}\subseteq\Lambda\) then \(\mu\) is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. The classical F.\ and M.\ Riesz theorem says that, for instance, \(\mathbb{Z}^+\) is a Riesz set. It is known that every Riesz set is a Rajchman set but the converse is open. The author introduces a related definition: \(E\subseteq T\) is a parisian set if supp \(\hat{\mu}\) is not a Rajchman set whenever \(\mu\) is a measure on \(E\) which is not absolutely continuous. The open question above can be rephrased as: Is \(T\) a parisian set? For each \(\alpha<1,\) the author constructs parisian sets of Hausdorff dimension \(\geq\alpha\).
