The author discusses a new technique to estimate the principal term of the global error of single-step methods of a first-order stiff initial value problem. He also proposes an integration algorithm with automatic choice of the step size and studies a second-order accuracy L-stable method. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the reliability and efficiency of the error estimate.
