The overlapping solution finite element method is applied to a 2D time-harmonic exterior electromagnetic scattering problem with perfectly conducting boundary. An hp-convergence result is established, taking into account the effect of approximating the fundamental solution. Issues regarding the implementation like static condensation are discussed. Finally, the performance of the method is demonstrated by a numerical example considering a 2D scattering problem. The structure of the resulting linear systems as well as the influence of the wave number on the convergence rate is investigated.
