The paper is concerned with the rigorous analysis of the solutions of the Schrödinger equation with a free Hamiltonian having discontinuous coefficients, e.g., different effective position-depending masses in heterogeneous structure. Starting from a regularized equation via a convolution operator, the authors prove the convergence to the case with jump-like mass variation. In particular, the equivalence of the convergence of the sequence of semigroups generated by regularized Hamiltonians to the convergence of the sequence of measures determined by these Hamiltonians on the set of functions taking values in the configuration space is proved.
