Starting with the definition of hypergeometric function [\textit{A. Nikiforov} and \textit{V. Ouvarov}, Élements de la théorie des fonctions speciales, Edition Mir (1976; Zbl 0378.33001)], the author introduces a positive functional and calculates its first and second order moments. As particular cases, one obtains the Baskakov operators, the Lupas operators and the Szász operators [see \textit{V. A. Baskakov}, Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 113, 249--251 (1957; Zbl 0080.05201); \textit{A. Lupaş}, The approximation by means of some linear positive operators. Müller, Manfred W. (ed.) et al., Approximation theory. Proceedings of the 1st international Dortmund meeting IDoMAT 95 Witten, Germany, March 13--17, 1995. Berlin: Akademie Verlag. Math. Res. 86, 201--229 (1995; Zbl 0838.41009) and \textit{A. Lupaş} and \textit{M. Müller}, Math. Z. 98, 208--226 (1967; Zbl 0171.02301) from the references]. Finally, the Gamma first-kind transform is defined and it is applicated to Szasz operators.
