In this paper all the spaces are Hausdorff. Given a space \(X\), let \({\mathcal F}(X)\) be the set of all nonempty closed subsets of \(X\). A point \(p\in X\) is said to be selection maximal provided that there exists a Vietoris continuous selection \(f:{\mathcal F}(X)\to X\) such that \(p\in S\in{\mathcal F}(X)\) implies that \(f(S)=p\), and the space \(X\) is said to be selection pointwise-maximal space if any point of \(X\) is selection maximal. A point \(p\in X\) is called a cut point if \(X\setminus\{p\}=U\cup V\), where \(U\) and \(V\) are disjoint subsets of \(X\) such that \(U^-\cap V^-=\{p\}\). The main result of this paper is a complete topological characterization of selection pointwise-maximal hyperspaces. For the case of first countable spaces, the authors obtain the following interesting result. Theorem 3.1. For a space \(X\), with a continuous selection for \({\mathcal F}(X)\) and a cut point \(p\in X\), the following conditions are equivalent: (a) \(X\) is zero-dimensional and first countable, (b) \(p\) is a selection maximal point.
