Stratifiable \(\mu\)-spaces have played an important role in the area of the M\(_3\) vs. M\(_1\) problem. A key problem to the problem is whether any stratifable space is a \(\mu\)-space or not. One direction was given by Gartside and Reznichenko, who showed that \(C_k(P,\mathbb R)\) is stratifiable, where \(P\), \(\mathbb R\) are the irrationals and the real numbers, respectively, and the problem remains open whether it is a \(\mu\)-space. In this paper, the authors study mapping spaces \(C_p(X,Y)\) with the topology of pointwise convergence, that is the subtopology of \(C_k(X,Y)\). They show that if \(C_p(X,\mathbb R)\) is a \(\mu\)-space, then \(X\) is a \(F_\sigma\)-compact metrizable space, and that for a zero-dimensional space \(X\), \(C_p(X,2)\) is a \(\mu\)-space if and only if \(X\) is a \(F_\sigma\)-compact metrizable space. As a consequence, they give a cosmic space \(C_p(P,2)\) that is not a \(\mu\)-space.
