Extending \textit{S. N. M. Rujsenaars'} [J. Math. Phys. 38, 1069--1146 (1997; Zbl 0877.39002)] definition of the so-called elliptic gamma function, \textit{N. Nishizawa} [J. Phys. A, Math. Gen. 34, No. 36, 7411--7421 (2001; Zbl 0993.33016)] introduced certain \((r+1)\)-fold infinite products (called \(q\)-shifted factorials) in order to define a family \(G_r(z|\tau_0,\dots, \tau_r)\) (\(r\geq 0\), \(z\in\mathbb{C}\), \(\tau_0,\dots,\tau_r\in \mathbb{C}\setminus\mathbb{R}\)) of so-called multipole elliptic gamma functions. The main point of the work under review is to derive the modular properties of these multiple elliptic gamma functions. This is achieved via a closer investigation of the multiple sine functions and the multiple Bernoulli polynomials originating from Barnes' classical work on multiple gamma functions. The author's result on modular properties follows from the main theorem of the paper which gives an expression for a certain finite product of the functions \(G_{r-2}\) in terms of the multiple Bernoulli polynomial \(B_{rr}\). Jacobi's modular transformation formula for the theta function and the modular property of Ruisenaars' elliptic gamma function are special cases of the author's result. Moreover, there is a representation of \(G_r\) in terms of an infinite product involving the multiple sine function.
