A standard static space-time \({}_f(a,b)\times F\) can be considered as a Lorentzian warped product where the warping function \(f\) is defined on a Riemannian manifold \((F,g_F)\) and acts on \((a,b)\). The authors consider the problem of existence of a warping function which makes the product Einstein or Ricci-flat for such type spaces. In the paper the existence of a perfect fluid is not assumed and all results can be considered as extensions of the results of \textit{O.~Kobayashi} and \textit{M.~Obata} [Prog. Math. 14, 197--206 (1981; Zbl 0485.58020)]. The authors discuss also conditions on the warping function to have a constant scalar curvature on the space-time. As usual, conditions obtained guarantee nonexistence.
