Let \(l_q(x)=\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}(-1)^{n-1}(x-1)^n (q-1)/(q^n-1)\) be the \(q\)-analogue of the logarithm function \(\log x\) in \(| x-1| <q\). (We have \(\lim_{q \to 1} l_q(x)=\log x\).) The author defines the (logarithmic) \(q\)-Mahler measure of a complex polynomial \(f(x_1,\dots,x_n)\) by the formulae \[ m_q(f)=\Re \int_0^1 \dots \int_0^1 l_q(f(e^{2\pi i\theta_1}, \dots, e^{2\pi i\theta_n})) \,d\theta_1 \dots d\theta_n \] and finds some basic properties of \(m_q(f)\). In particular, he proves that \(m_q((x+a)(x+b))=l_q(ab)\) for \(a, b>1\) and finds an expression for \(m_q(x+y+1)\). The first result shows that, unlike the classical case, the logarithmic \(q\)-Mahler measure of a polynomial is not an additive function. The author also generalizes the \(q\)-Mahler measure to some complex values of \(q\) and finds a \(q\)-variation of Smyth's result \(m((x+1)z+y+1)=7\zeta(3)/2\pi^2\).
