Conditions of asymptotic stability of periodic solutions of the first order implicit difference equation \[ \Delta u(i) = f(i,u(i+1)),\;i \in \{0,1,\ldots, N-1\},\;u(0) =u(N), \] are obtained. An optimality of the conditions on the function \(f\) and the number of periodic solutions is verified.
