Let \(GF(q)\) be a finite field of order \(q\), and \(PG(n, q)\) be the projective space of dimension \(n\) over the field \(GF(q)\). A family of \(d\)-dimensional dual hyperovals \(S\) is a set of \(d\)-dimensional subspaces of \(PG(n, q)\) which satisfy the following conditions: (1) For every two distinct members \(X\) and \(Y\) of \(S\), \(X \cap Y\) is a projective point. (2) For any three distinct members \(X_1\), \(X_2\) and \(X_3\) of \(S\), the intersection \(X_1\cap X_2\cap X_3 =\emptyset\). (3) The members of \(S\) span \(PG(n, q)\). (4) The cardinality \(| S|\) is \(q^d+q^{d-1}+\cdots+q+2\). Recently, in the characterization of the finite quadric Veroneseans \({\mathcal V}^{2^d}_d\) in \(PG(d(d+3)/2, q)\), Thas and Van Maldeghem proved that the dual of \({\mathcal V}^{2^d}_d\) and the dual of its nucleus subspace \(C\) form a dual hyperoval in the case where \(q\) is even [\textit{J. Thas} and \textit{H. Van Maldeghem}, Characterization of the finite quadric Veroneseans \({\mathcal V}^{2^n}_n\), Q. J. Math. 55, 99--113 (2004)]. In the paper under review, a new family of dual hyperovals over \(GF(q)\) with \(q\) even is constructed.
