For any monic polynomial \(f\) of degree \(n\) let \(f_k\) denote the polynomial whose roots are \(k\)-th powers of the roots of \(f\); then for any norm \(\| \cdot \| \) on the vector space of degree \(n\) polynomials, the Mahler measure is \(M(f)=\lim_{k\to \infty} \| f_k\| ^{\frac{1}{k}}\). The authors show that the Mahler measure of the Jones polynomial and of the coloured Jones polynomial behaves like a hyperbolic volume under Dehn surgery. In particular, the authors prove that for the Jones polynomial and the coloured Jones polynomial the Mahler measure converges under twisting for any link.
