Let \(R\) be a subring of the rationals containing \(\tfrac 12\). A Hopf algebra up to homotopy (Hah) is an augmented chain \(R\)-algebra \(A\), equipped with an algebra morphism \(\Delta\colon A\to A\otimes A\) that is homotopy-coassociative and homotopy cocommutative. In this paper the author gives a new proof of the following result of \textit{D. J. Anick} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 2, No. 3, 417-453 (1989; Zbl 0681.55006)]. Let \(\rho>2\) be the least non-invertible prime in \(R\) and let \(q\geq 1\). If \(A\) is a Hah whose underlying algebra is free and generated by the range of dimensions \(d\): \(q\leq d\leq q\rho-1\), then \(A\) is isomorphic as a Hah to a primitively-generated chain Hopf-algebra. The proof proposed uses the Bockstein spectral sequence (see \textit{W. Browder} [Ann. Math. (2) 74, 24-51 (1961; Zbl 0112.14501)]), and the results on Hopf algebras from \textit{J. W. Milnor, J. C. Moore} [Ann. Math. (2) 81, 211-264 (1965; Zbl 0163.28202)].
