The author studies harmonic sections normal to submanifolds. The lower bounds of the index for harmonic sections which are normal to submanifolds are given in terms of intrinsic quantities of submanifolds. Moreover the stability of harmonic sections for constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in the unit spheres are studied.
