This article is closely connected with the study of representations with unipotent reduction of odd orthogonal and of unitary groups in articles of the author [Stabilité pour les représentations elliptiques de réduction unipotente: le cas des groupes unitaires, Preprint 2003], the author and \textit{J.-L. Waldspurger} [Invent. Math. 152, 461--623 (2003; Zbl 1037.22036)] and of \textit{J.-L. Waldspurger} [Astérisque 269 (2001; Zbl 0965.22012); Contributions to automorphic forms, geometry and number theory, Johns Hopkins University Press, Baltimore, 803--910 (2004; Zbl 1064.22010)]. In particular, following the author and J.-L. Waldspurger [op. cit.] the group \(G\) considered is the special orthogonal group of a nondegenerate quadratic form on a \((2n+1)\)-dimensional space \(V\) over a finite extension \(F\) of \(\mathbb Q_p\), \(p \not= 2\), where the quadratic form is either split (also denoted \(G = G_{iso}\)) or has 3-dimensional anisotropic kernel (\(G = G_{an}\)). For such a group \(G\) the main result is the construction of functions on \(G\) for which the orbital integrals on regular elliptic elements depend only on the stable conjugacy class. These functions are associated to representations of level zero, i.e., representations having non zero fixed vectors for some parabolic subgroup \(K\) associated to an almost self-dual (or \(w_F\)-elementary) lattice on \(V\). For such a representation one obtains an associated representation of the reduced group \(K/U\), where \(U\) is the pro-\(p\)-unipotent radical of \(K\). The character sheaves of Lusztig for this finite reductive group give then (lifted to \(K\) and extended to \(G\)) the functions in question. The constructed functions are interpreted as pseudo coefficients of elliptic representations of level zero; using a result of \textit{J. Arthur} [Sel. Math., New Ser. 2, 501--579 (1996; Zbl 0923.11081)] the author can then obtain a description of stable packets of elliptic representation of level zero.
