The authors characterize some generalized ageing properties by proper generalized stochastic orderings of the excess lifetimes. Thus they generalize results of \textit{Y.-H. Chen} [J. Appl. Probab. 31, 1110--1115 (1994; Zbl 0816.62013)], \textit{X. Li} and \textit{S. C. Kochar} [ibid. 38, 242--247 (2001; Zbl 0974.62011)], and \textit{X. Li, Z. Li} and \textit{B.-Y. Jing} [Stat. Probab. Lett. 46, 229--237 (2000; Zbl 0942.62014)].
