The paper deals with a simple version of the Fried-Gurtin model for isothermal phase transitions in solids. The problem is formulated as a coupled system of three-dimensional elasticity and the parabolic equation, known as the Allen-Cahn or Landau-Ginzburg equation. Using the well known Leray-Schaunder fixed point theorem and under some naturally justified assumptions on the elastic energy, the authors prove existence and uniqueness theorems of the considered problem.
