For an ideal \(A\) of a ring \(R\) set \(S(A)=\bigcap_{A\not\subseteq P}\mathcal C(P)\), where \(\mathcal C(P)\) denotes the set of elements that are regular modulo the prime ideal \(P\). Then \(R\) is said to admit a classical structure sheaf if \(R\) is a Noetherian Artin-Rees ring and \(S(A)\) is a left Ore set for every ideal \(A\). This terminology is justified by the main result in the paper which asserts that for a ring \(R\) which admits a classical structure sheaf in the above sense it is indeed possible to construct a sheaf of rings on the space \(\text{Spec}(R)\) of all prime ideals of \(R\). The theorem of \textit{P.~F.~Smith} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 22, 39-68 (1971; Zbl 0208.29703)], namely that a Noetherian Artin-Rees ring can be localized at every prime ideal, plays an important role in this construction which is a natural extension of the classical one for the commutative case. Another important result of the paper is that over a field of characteristic zero every height one prime ideal of the enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{sl}(2)\) is localizable. In order to illustrate his ideas and to demonstrate their usefulness for the understanding of localization techniques for Noetherian rings and modules, the author presents detailed and concrete calculations for the enveloping algebra of the three-dimensional Heisenberg algebra.
