Let \(A\) be a finite-dimensional algebra over a field \(k\) and let \(D^b(A)\) be its derived category of bounded complexes of finitely generated \(A\)-modules. The group of isomorphism classes of self-equivalences of \(D^b(A)\) of standard type contains the usual Picard group of \(A\), and this in turn contains the outer automorphism group of \(A\). In the paper under review the author shows that the connected component of the identity in the outer automorphism group of \(A\) is a normal subgroup of the group of standard self-equivalences of \(D^b(A)\). Moreover, it is proved that the cosets are algebraic varieties and multiplication and inversion are morphisms of varieties. Essential ingredient is a result due to Rouquier, and to Huisgen-Zimmermann and Saorin which shows that the connected component of the identity in the outer automorphism group of \(A\) is a derived invariant.
