      The author is concerned with the second order quasilinear difference equation \[ \Delta(| \Delta x_{n-1}| ^{\rho-1}\Delta x_{n-1}) + p_n| x_n| ^{\rho-1}x_n = 0,\;n\geq n_0 \] with \(\Delta x_n = x_{n+1} - x_n\) being the forward difference, \(\rho>0\), \(p_n\geq 0\), \(\forall n\geq n_0\). Non-oscillation conditions for the solutions are given, expressed by the inequality \[ (n_{m+1} - n_m)^\rho\sum_{i=n_m}^{n_{m+1}-1} p_i\leq\alpha_m,\;0\leq\alpha_m<1,\;m\geq 1 \] with \(\alpha_m\) such that \(\{z_m\}_0^\infty\) defined by the recurrence relation \[ z_{m+1} = (z_m-\alpha_m)(\theta_m+z_m-\alpha_m)^{-1},\;z_0=1 \] should satisfy \(0<z_m<1\), \(\theta_m=(\beta_m/\beta_{m+1})^\rho\), \(\beta_m=(n_{m+1}-n_m)(n_1-n_0)^{-1}\), \(\{n_k\}\) being some increasing sequence of \({\mathbb N}\). Further, oscillation conditions are obtained by a slight modification of \(z_m\) definition and by reversing the inequality for \(p_n\).
