The author characterizes (effective) \(E\)-descent morphisms in \(\mathcal Cat\), where \(E\) is the class of discrete fibrations or the class of discrete cofibrations. Taking advantage of the fact that discrete fibrations over \(\mathcal B\) correspond to \(\mathcal Set\)-valued functors on \({\mathcal B}^{\text{op}}\), she describes a natural factorization of a functor \(P\) in \(\mathcal Cat\) and characterizes the (effective) descent condition for \(P\) in terms of one of its factors. She also shows that global effective descent implies effective \(E\)-descent, but not vice versa.
