The paper deals with the four-point boundary value problem \[ y''(t)+a(t)f(y(t))=0, \quad t\in (0, 1),\tag{*} \] with the boundary conditions \[ y(0)=\mu y(\xi), \quad y(1)=\beta y(\eta), \] in a Banach space \(E\), with \(0<\xi\leq\eta<1\), \(0<\mu<1/(1-\xi)\), \(0<\beta<1/\eta\) and \(\mu\xi(1-\beta)+(1-\mu)(1-\beta\eta)>0\). By using the Kuratowski measure of noncompactness and a (version of Krasnoselskii's) fixed-point theorem on cones, the author provides sufficient conditions which guarrantee the existence of one or two positive solutions of \((*).\) An example is given when \(E\) is the \(n\)-dimensional Euclidean space.
