The paper deals with a fully nonlinear version of the Vlasov-Poisson (VP) system named Vlasov-Monge-Ampère (VMA) system, where the Poisson equation is replaced by the real Monge-Ampère equation. The existence of global energy preserving weak solutions is proved. The existence of local strong solutions in periodic domains is shown. It is established that for well-prepared, nearly monokinetic initial data, the solutions of the VMA system converge, when the coupling constant goes to 0, to those of the Euler equations. In this asymptotics, the EP system is a higher order approximation of the VMA system.
