The author presents a number of new and interesting homotopy and cobordism invariants for virtual strings. (A virtual string is, roughly speaking, a specification of a set of (oriented) double points in a circle.) Earlier versions of some of the ideas may be found in a paper by \textit{J. S. Carter, S. Kamada} and \textit{M. Saito} [J. Knot Theory Ramifications 11, No. 3, 311--322 (2002; Zbl 1004.57007)].
