Let \(R\) be an associative ring with \(1\not= 0\). A point is a subspace \(Ra\) of the free left \(R\)-module \(R^2\) where \(a,b\) is a basis for \(R^2\) for some \(b\in R^2\). If \(a,b\) is a basis for \(\mathbb{R}^2\) then the point \(Ra\) is called distant to the point \(Rb\). If \(K\) is a field then two points are distant if and only if they are distinct. The authors study bijections \(\varphi : {\mathcal P}(R) \rightarrow {\mathcal P}(R')\) of the point-sets given by rings \(R\) and \(R'\) with the property: \(A\) distant \(B\) if and only \(A\varphi\) distant \(B\varphi\). If \(R\) and \(R'\) are rings of quadratic matrices of size \(n\geq 2\) over fields or direct products of such rings then a description of these bijections is given in algebraic terms.
