On chains of centered valuations (Q1774359)

Let \(A\) be an integral domain with quotient field \(K.\) In this paper, there is made a study of chains of valuations of the polynomial ring \(A[X_{1},\dots,X_{n}]\) with respect to the relation defined by \(v\leq v'\) for valuations \(v\) and \(v'\) of a field if and only if the valuation ring of \(v'\) is contained in the valuation ring of \(v.\) In particular all valuations which are centered on the same ideal of \(A\) or which extend the same valuation of the field of fractions of \(A\) are characterized. Some interesting applications are also given.
