Let \(R\) be a commutative Noetherian ring, \(p\in \operatorname{Spec} R\), \(M\) a finite \(R\)-module and \(\mu^i(p,M)\) the \(i\)-th Bass number of \(M\). Then \(R\) is Cohen-Macaulay if and only if ``\(\mu^0(p,M)\not =0\) only if ht\((p)\leq \text{CMdim}_RM\)'', where \(\text{CMdim}_R\) denotes the extension of the Gerko Cohen-Macaulay dimension from the local case.
