The authors investigate the performance of hybrid reservation/contention TDMA/CDMA (time-division/code-division multiple access) system under the assumption that packet arrivals follow an MMPP (Markov modulated Poisson process). The proposed analysis consists in dividing the TDMA/CDMA system into three systems: a system with only hybrid slots, a system with single-code slots and a system with contention slots having multiple codes. Then the results of the analysis of these three systems are integrated to derive the size system distribution which can be used to evaluate the performance of the system.
