The authors study the method of suppressing chaotic dynamics by stabilizing some discontinuous periodic solutions of the systems. They suggest that this approach can be used also for the stabilization of trajectories approximating unstable limit cycles of systems with chaotic dynamics. The method presented consists of two main steps. (i) Using a localization method [the first author, Differ. Equations 31, 1826--1833 (1995); translation from Differ. Uravn. 31, 1858--1865 (1995; Zbl 0868.34024)] for limit cycles and periodic trajectories, find some approximation to a possibly existing unstable limit cycle of the system. (ii) Extending the approximation found on the first step to a discontinuous periodic solution of the system and stabilize it by a nonlinear stabilization method [the first author, Sov. J. Comput. Syst. Sci. 24, 65--69 (1986); translation from Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Tekh. Kibern. 1985, 108--112 (1985; Zbl 0597.93047)] based on the transformation of an affine system to a canonical form.
