The following problem is considered in \(\Omega \times (0,T)\) for a given bounded domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^N\) \[ b(u)_t-div(a(x,u,\nabla u))+div(\Phi(u))=f\,\,\,\,\, \text{{in}}\,\,\,\Omega\times (0,T), \] \[ b(u)(t=0)=b_0\,\,\,\,\,\text{{in}}\,\,\,\Omega, \] \[ u=0\,\,\,\,\,\text{{on}}\,\,\,\partial\Omega\times (0,T), \] where \(b\) is a maximal monotone graph such that \(b^{-1}\) is continuous, \(a(x,s,\xi)\) is monotone and coercive w.r.t. \(\xi, \Phi\) is a continuous vector valued function, and with \(f, b_0\) being \(L^1\) functions. Well-posedness in the so-called renormalised sense is proved, assuming \(a(x,s,\xi),\Phi (s)\) to be locally Lipschitz continuous w.r.t. \(s\). In particular an \(L^1\)-contraction principle is established with the technique of doubling the time variable only. An auxiliary result is the existence of solutions in \(L^\infty\) with bounded data, whose proof is given in the appendix.
