The authors consider a bifurcation problem \(Bx - R(x,\lambda) = 0 \) where the operator \(R\) is sufficiently smooth or analytic in some neighborhood of \((0,0)\), \(R(0,\lambda)\equiv 0\), \(R_x(0,0) = 0\), and \(B\,:\,D(B)\subset E_1 \rightarrow E_2\) is a closed linear Fredholm operator of index zero with dense domain, \(\dim N(B) = n >1\). It is assumed that the equation admits an \(l\)-parameter continuous group \(G\) (in the usual sense with interwining operators). The main results are necessary and sufficient conditions for the simultaneous reduction of branching equations with respect to unknowns and equations (truncation reduction). The authors use them to prove new bifurcation existence theorems, and to suggest new iterative methods.
