This paper is a simple, direct and nice treatment of the André-Quillen cohomology in the category of commutative differential graded algebras (dga's) over a field of characteristic zero. Let \(M\) be a dg module over a cofibrant dga \(A\), then the André-Quillen complex \(C^*_{AQ}(A,M)\) is quasi-isomorphic to the dg module \(\text{Der}^*(A, M)\), and is useful for the computation of the rational homotopy groups of function spaces. The authors develop techniques to compute the homotopy groups of function spaces. They reprove that the group \(h\Aut(X_{\mathbb{Q}})\) of homotopy classes of homotopy self-equivalences of the rationalization of a nilpotent space \(X\) is isomorphic to the group of \(\mathbb{Q}\)-points of an algebraic group. The Lie algebra of this algebraic group is isomorphic to \(H^0_{AQ}(A^*(X), A^*(X))\) and the Lie bracket corresponds to the Gerstenhalber bracket on \(H^*_{AQ}(A^*(X), A^*(X))\). They also describe an isomorphism between \(\Pi_n(F(X, Y),f)\) and \(H^{-n}_{AQ}(A^*(X), A^*(X))\).
