      The authors consider the following boundary value problem in \(L_2(0, 1)\) with spectral parameter \(\lambda\) in the boundary conditions \[ \begin{aligned} L(\lambda, D)u &:=\lambda u(x)- u''(x)= f(x),\quad x\in (0,1),\\ L_1(\lambda, D)u &:= (\lambda+ \gamma)u(0)+\beta u'(0)= f_1,\\ L_2(\lambda, D)u &:= (\lambda+ \gamma)u(1)+\beta u'(1)= f_2,\end{aligned} \] with \(\lambda\), \(\gamma\), \(\beta\), \(f_1,f_2\in\mathbb{C}\). The problem is rewritten as one for a block-matrix operator equation in \(L_2(0,1)\oplus\mathbb{C}^2\). The existence and uniqueness of a solution is proved for \(\lambda\) lying in a sector in \(\mathbb{C}\) and a coerciveness estimate established.
