The author considers a first order problem which can be expressed in local coordinates as \(\sum_{j=1}^n X^j(x)D_j u^i-B^i(x,u)=f^i(x)\) (\(1\leq i\leq n\)). This problem arises from Lie or covariant derivatives in differential geometry. He gives (under appropriate conditions) an integral representation of a solution of a linearized problem and obtains existence and smoothness for a nonlinear problem.
