The authors use the Andruskiewitsch-Schneider lifting method [see \textit{N. Andruskiewitsch} and \textit{H.-J. Schneider}, Math. Sci. Res. Inst. Publ. 43, 1-68 (2002; Zbl 1011.16025)] to study finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras whose group of group-like elements is Abelian of exponent 2. To each such Hopf algebra they associate a generalised simply-laced Cartan matrix, and obtain the complete classification for matrices of type \(A_l\). It is also conjectured (and proven in the \(A_l\) and \(A_l^{(1)}\) cases) that the Hopf algebra is finite-dimensional if and only if the associated Cartan matrix is of finite type.
